Tanzanite in a ring or pendant? A guide to wearing it
If you love tanzanite and want to wear it often, consider your activities before choosing a ring design. Where you wear a stone can matter as much as its appearance.
What needs protection?
Tanzanite has approximately 6–7 Mohs hardness and cleavage: a tendency to split along certain directions. Avoid impacts and sudden temperature changes. Ultrasonic and steam cleaning are not recommended; gentle lukewarm soapy water is preferable for an item in good condition.
Choose a setting for actual use
A pendant or earrings can reduce exposure to everyday hand impacts. For a ring, discuss edge protection and setting profile with a jeweller. Metal protection helps but does not make a gemstone indestructible.
Someone who removes jewellery for sport and manual work can manage a ring differently from someone wearing it continuously. Choose for your real habits rather than an ideal routine you hope to adopt.
If a problem appears
After a significant knock, inspect the item before continued wear. If you see a damaged edge, a new line or movement, store it separately and request examination. Do not conceal damage through home polishing.
Keep maintenance instructions with the invoice. Before selecting a setting, read why tanzanite appears blue or violet.
