Questions about pricing and the process
What is the difference between valuation and examination?
Examination establishes what an item is: gemstone identity, natural or synthetic origin, imitations and treatments. Valuation establishes what it is worth at current market prices. They are often performed together: first examination, then valuation.
How can I check whether a diamond is natural or laboratory-grown?
Not with the naked eye. Natural and laboratory-grown diamonds have the same composition and require specialised gemmological testing to distinguish their origin. An accredited expert can establish the nature of the stone.
How can I identify moissanite sold as diamond?
Moissanite is different from diamond and can be identified through optical and thermal properties using gemmological instruments. It may look like a diamond, but professional examination establishes its identity.
Can inherited jewellery be valued without a certificate?
Yes. No previous certificate is required — the item is examined and valued directly. You receive a written report for insurance, notarial matters or sale.
How long does an examination take, and do I need an appointment?
It can usually be completed on the same day, by prior appointment. Cases requiring advanced laboratory analysis may take longer; we explain the expected timeframe in advance.
What do I receive at the end?
A written report with the examination findings and/or valuation: item description, gemstone characteristics and, where applicable, estimated market value.
